Long before MTN, Coca-Cola, Apple or Nike became household names, humans were already selling.
Imagine a marketplace hundreds or even thousands of years ago.
A farmer has baskets of vegetables.
Another person makes pots.
Someone else has beautiful fabrics.
They need something from one another, so they trade.
This was one of the earliest forms of business: “I have something you need, and you have something I need.”
HOW BUSINESS WAS DONE BACK IN THE DAYS.

But as communities grew, selling became more complicated.
People started looking for ways to make their products recognizable.
A particular potter might make pots with a special design.
A blacksmith might become known for producing stronger tools.
A trader might become famous for the quality of their goods.
And that was the beginning of something very important: reputation.

Eventually, businesses began using names, symbols, packaging and signs to help people identify their products.
That is what brand really does today.
A brand is more than a logo. It is the feeling people associate with a business.
It answers the question: “When I see this, what do I expect?”
Think about a familiar colour, sound, slogan or package. you recognize the company before you even see its name.

So, while modern branding may look like a product of advertising and technology, its roots go much further back.
Humans have always wanted to know who made something, whether they could trust it, and whether it was worth choosing.
The tools changed.
The marketplaces changed.
But the basic idea remained the same.
People don't only buy products. They buy trust, familiarity and stories.
And that is how selling slowly became branding.
