Imagine walking into a school where the students helped decide what their school looked like.

Not just the colour of the walls.

Not just the sports activities.

But the timetable.

The subjects.

The classroom arrangement.

The projects.

Maybe even how some assessments are done.

But imagine what could happen if students were given a genuine voice in designing the environment where they spend years learning.

One student might say:

Another might say:

Someone else might suggest:

Another might ask:

Suddenly, students aren't just receiving education.

They're thinking about what education should look like.

And that process itself is educational.

Because designing a school requires students to practise skills that textbooks don't always measure.

They have to communicate.

Listen.

Negotiate.

Compromise.

Defend ideas.

Consider other people's needs.

Make decisions.

And accept that not every idea can win.

Imagine giving students the challenge:

They might create technology laboratories, creative studios, entrepreneurship spaces, quiet rooms, outdoor classrooms, debate zones or places where students can learn practical skills.

Some ideas would probably be completely unrealistic.

And that's okay.

The goal wouldn't be to let students run the entire school.

Teachers and administrators still have important responsibilities.

The point is to ask:

Perhaps the biggest surprise would be discovering that students have been thinking about education all along.

We just don't always ask them what they think.
