WHEN “WE’LL GET BACK TO YOU” BECOMES YOUR FULL-TIME JOB

You applied.

You submitted your CV.

You customised the cover letter.

You prepared for the interview.

You showed up.

You answered every question.

Then came those five words:

“We'll get back to you.”

And you smiled.

“Thank you so much.”

You walk away hopeful.

Day one: Nothing.

Day three: Nothing.

Day five: You check your email.

Nothing.

You check again.

Still nothing.

You start wondering whether the email somehow went to spam.

Then you see a notification.

Your heart jumps.

It's your bank.

Not the employer.

This is the strange emotional world of job searching.

One application can make you hopeful.

One rejection can ruin your afternoon.

One interview can make you imagine yourself already working there.

And silence?

Silence can make you question everything.

“Maybe I'm not good enough.”

“Maybe my CV isn't good.”

“Maybe everyone else is better than me.”

But here's the part job seekers sometimes forget:

Rejection is not always a measurement of your ability.

Companies hire for specific reasons.

They may choose someone with a slightly different experience.

They may already have an internal candidate.

The role may change.

The position may disappear.

They may receive hundreds of applications for one opening.

Sometimes you simply weren't the person they needed for that particular role at that particular time.

That doesn't mean you have nothing to offer.

Of course, job searching can be exhausting.

So while waiting, don't allow your entire identity to become “the person looking for a job.”

Keep learning.

Build something.

Volunteer.

Network.

Improve your skills.

Apply again.

Take care of yourself.

Remember that your career is bigger than one application.

Eventually, that “We'll get back to you” may become an actual phone call.

And when it does, you'll realise that all those unanswered applications weren't proof that you were failing.

They were simply part of the journey.
