WHEN YOUR BEST EMPLOYEE ISN'T YOUR BEST IDEA

WHEN YOUR BEST EMPLOYEE ISN'T YOUR BEST IDEA
A business can have brilliant employees and still miss a brilliant idea.
That may sound strange, but talent and ideas are not always found in the same place.
The person with the most experience may know the business inside out, but that doesn't mean they will always have the best solution.

The manager may have years of industry knowledge.
The newest employee may have only been there for three months.
Yet that new employee might notice something everyone else has stopped seeing.
This is why businesses need more than talented people.
They need space for people to think.
Sometimes, the quiet employee has an idea but doesn't speak because everyone else seems more experienced.
Sometimes, someone has a suggestion that sounds unusual, so it is dismissed before anyone really considers it.
And sometimes, businesses become so attached to the way they have always done things that new ideas never get a chance.
A strong workplace should make room for questions, suggestions and even respectful disagreement.
Because the goal shouldn't be to prove that the person at the top is always right.
The goal should be to find what works best for the business.
The next great idea could come from a senior executive.
It could also come from the intern, the receptionist, the designer, the driver or the employee who rarely speaks during meetings.
Good businesses don't just hire people to perform tasks.
They create environments where people can contribute ideas.
Because sometimes, your best employee isn't the person with the best idea.
And sometimes, your best idea is sitting quietly in the room, waiting for someone to ask:
“What do you think?”
